This image may not be used by other entities without the express written consent of wikiHow, Inc. Reattach the soft top material "canvas" to the glass when just part of the canvas has detached so that the glass does not have to be re-centered within the hole in the canvas.
If it does have to be re-centered one might do that by measuring distances with the defrosting grid as a guide and, in any case, holding the glass temporarily in place with gaffer's or other sticky tape.
Open the top slightly so that it is not taut. Prop something such as a small empty box between the front edge of the top and the upper edge of the windshield frame so that the top stays open slightly. Find the seal that was attached but has become unattached, such as the lower edge of the exterior layer of canvas.
If only a very small part has separated leave it alone. If a large part is mostly separated you may wish to separate it entirely to re-seal it as one continuous piece. Close the roof completely to see where the canvas falls on the glass when pulled gently flat as far in on the glass as it will go, but not pulled hard. At least in the case of cotton canvas, this will probably be not as far up onto the glass as originally or as on a still-attached inside layer because it will have shrunk since new.
Apply a strip of double-sided foam tape such as 3M VHB "very high bond" --foam so that it will conform to any irregularities, preferably black so ultraviolet rays will not promptly destroy its exposed edge--to the glass with the edge coming up to the point you determined previously. Bring the middle of the area being attached such as the middle, left-versus-right-wise of the bottom exterior canvas up to the edge of the tape.
It should have just a little slack, since it needs to be pulled basically smooth but not taut when the top is closed. Just a little slack when the top is closed is much better than tension, which will unstick the tape.
Stick the canvas to the tape, working outward. The reason to work outward from a central point is so that any "excess" material does not build up at one side. Rub down the canvas over the tape firmly and apply some heat--not a great painfully hot amount--with a blow dryer for a thorough bond.
The convertible top should be fixed. I have a Mustang convertible. The window is separating from the cloth top. Yes No. The clips are screwed to the cowl with a 8 sheet metal screw and the rear of the molding is screwed the back of the A-pillar with a 6 counter sunk sheet metal screw.
Be s ure the top opening of the corner moldings properly engages the upper stainless. Image The lower windshield moldings are held to the body with clip set PIN The large center and two small mid clips attach to the cowl screen or cowl with 6 sheet metal screws.
Image There are two clips included in PIN that include threaded studs. These clips are the two outer clips for the lower windshield moldings. The studs fit into corresponding holes in the cowl once the moldings are in place. Image Carefully slide the lower windshield moldings onto the clips attached to the cowl screen or cowl.
Image With the lower moldings slid onto the clips on the cowl screen, bow the moldings slightly and slide them into the lower corner moldings at the same time passing the stud of the outer clip through the holes in the cowl.
Find the studs under the dash board from the inside and install the supplied pal nut and tighten. You may even wait until this point to install the lower center clip making the installation even easier.
Image Next install the center lower stainless connector PIN by snapping it over the top edge of the molding first and then over the lower edge. Image The rear glass moldings are held to the body with clips PIN These clips fit over the rear glass pinch weld at designated places around the opening.
You will note places where the pinch weld is only one thickness of sheet metal, making the clips easy to hammer into place. Image Install the rear glass gasket PIN so that the rubber flap is to the inside of the glass.
This gasket has molded corners that will match up to the upper corners of the glass. Image Glass sealer PIN or caulking PIN will need to be used on the pinch weld to seal the rear glass gasket to the body. Image Like the windshield, lubricate the groove of the gasket and install the 16 gauge wire with the wire crisscrossing at the bottom of the glass.
